Now available – Graph Comparison Tool (Squiglink) and MEGA measurement drop

Intro

Thanks to the open-source tool Cringraph, arguably the best thing in the headphone hobby since…the HD600? Measurements here can be easily visualised and compared to each other using the newly set up Squiglink for Unheardlab.

A change log is kept on this site for documenting any updates to the database:

Shout out to Mlochbaum for building this wonderful tool, Super*Review for overhauls and improvements, Jaakko Pasanen for creating the whole AutoEQ project, Rohsa for integrating AutoEQ to the graph tool, and Banbeucmas for debugs! And of course, Crinacle the legend himself who initiated this great idea.

Using the Graph Tool

Now, the majority of you nerds who read this blog should already know about using Cringraph/Squiglink, so a general introduction is not needed. There are however a few things to note:

  • Additional curves can be added using the ‘+’ sign. Some headphones have multiple configurations:
stack as many squigly lines as you like!
  • Pad-rolling is a thing in this blog. Headphone models with extra pad options are marked with an * after the name:
one day, there will be pad-rolling for all of ’em…
  • AutoEQ function can generate EQ profiles of selected headphone FR into the Target FR (ie. Harman)
    • The frequency range for EQ is set to 20hz-9000hz by default, as measurements are likely inaccurate beyond this. In most cases, you could see the concha interaction area (phase cancellation) around 9-10khz is untouched by the EQ profile – this is desirable.
    • If you happen to be sensitive to upper treble ie. with Hifimans and their notorious 12khz peaks, feel free to add another filter to kill that off.

  • You can benchmark any curve as ‘flat’. An application of this would be to generate Compensated Graphs by ‘flatting’ the Target Curve (ie. Harman OE 2018).
the greatest divide amongst squigle line lovers: to compensate or not to compensate?

And that’s pretty much it… enjoy using the Graph Tool… and some fifty measurements already uploaded to there!

Coming soon: a trilogy of planar war staring the Hifiman Sundara 2020, the Moondrop Venus and the Nan-7 headphones.
